Sweden, together with 22 European countries signed the international Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) at a ceremony in Japan.
ACTA is about protection of intellectual property and includes such measures against counterfeiting and piracy.
Counterfeit goods, imitation designer bags, clothes and shoes are often produced in atrocious conditions of workers in distress, so it is not surprising either negative or to strengthen the legislation and the tools to counteract this.
The problem lies instead in the part of ACTA, which is about the Internet. The U.S. position is that common for ISPs to take over the responsibility of the user violates copyright laws and could also be blamed if they do not prevent crime.
As in the past in pursuit of pirates or trademark infringement in general, this means tougher rules to other aspects of Internet use may be affected, such as freedom of expression.
In conclusion, the ACTA is perceived by many as backdoor censorship: censorship, who call themselves something other than censorship. ACTA must go through both parliament and the European Parliament before it becomes reality. But it has already been raised dissatisfied voices over how the matter was handled.
MEPs Carl Schlyter (MP) and Christian Enstrom (PP) believes that they have not been told anything in advance about Sweden’s signature, even though they are familiar with and interested in the matter. Too little information is available and if you’re going to relate to a controversial international agreement will do it.
To play a piratpartist is concerned about an agreement that could affect the ability to pirate copyrighted material will not be a surprise, but ACTA is a Mudskipper that should be investigated carefully before deciding.
Perhaps it leads ACTA neither to censorship or limitation of freedom of expression. But in these times, when private interests all the time looking for an entry in order to regulate the information on the Internet and partly successful, it is not worth to go up one finger.
If the Internet ceases to be free is a possible way back hard. It is best if Sweden can participate and ensure that the agreement is not pushed through the Council of Ministers at all.
A free internet is a treasure that should be taken care of.
The problem of piracy has many possible solutions: international censorship is far from being the best.
Is this the Famous AMERICAN DREAM?
Is there anythng wrong with this picture?
Hell YES!!! EVERYTHING. Imagine living in a Society that allows killers and rapists to stay in jail far less than a person that it is involved in internet sharing/downloading?
Imagine living in a World where EVERYONE accepts this kind of behaviour?
I wonder what has happend with this Society?
Am i going to allow this kind of behaviour from my goverment or my neighobouring country? HELL NO!
The bottom line is that The BIGGEST POISON OF THIS SOCIETY is MONEY!
There is something wrong about the U.S.A. goverment. They are no longer helping their own citizens…. they are slaving them and You are part of it… We are part of it… I believe in taking care of each other… but clearly goverments have their own agenda.
They do not care about you or me and it is clearly demonstrated by these two pictures.
I demand JUSTICE!!! NOT BULLSHIT!!!
Kim Schmitz “crime” bears no comparasson to rape and murder!
